Presentation day

aka... draw your classmates day!

Here are some quick sketches of my classmates during class presentations yesterday.  And when I say quick, I mean QUICK!  They never held one pose for very long.  I'll keep at it, and we all can watch my progress!

Oh and I drew this little guy on my sketchbook too...

Figure Drawing

This semester I have a figure drawing class... aka I draw naked people.  I still remember my first class ever at CCAD.  It was a figure drawing class... aka naked people drawing class (but I didn't get the memo).  I was an eager student.  I got there early and watched as everyone arrived.  Then a naked woman sat on a stool, and we were told to draw her.  With my 2b in hand, I attempted to draw this woman... mind you, I was in complete shock and felt slightly uncomfortable.  Nowadays, staring at the human figure for three hours is normal.  It's strictly business.

As much as I love drawing, I'm getting a little burnt out drawing because I have two drawing classes this semester.  12 hours of drawing class gets old after awhile, which is why I decided to have a little fun with today's assignment (as pictured).  Its not my best work... but I enjoy it.  It makes me chuckle and reminds me of The Simpsons.  The technique is fun.. using pastels on black paper, but next time I'll stay away from yellow.    Enjoy!

Snapped Branch

For one of my classes, I have to create a story and illustrate it with character concepts and scenes.  Here is my first scene.  I used pastels on black paper, unfortunately I had a limited color choice... but you get the gist.   The story is about a boy who encounters the Loch Ness monster.  The monster is subject to change.

Social media

Holy cow!  It seems like a major part of being an illustrator is slutting around social media sites.  Today I set up a Behance account and a Facebook page.  I updated my LinkedIn and Google+ account, as well.  I even linked some of that stuff to my Twitter account so I can show off there too.  Oh and I have a Coroflot page.  Dear lord...  I feel like I'm forgetting something.  I hope all this hard work pays off in the near future.

With all the updating, I found a couple illustrations that I haven't shared on here yet...

80's Television Poster.  Since I'm much older than my classmates, they didn't get it. But my instructor did.  Hah, am I really that old?!

Here is my Goodnight Moon cover with a few more revisions.  I really want to move the balloon down.  You know what they say, art is never completely finished.

This was a 'Hero Shot' assignment.  Robocat brought you a gift!

Crazy assignment restrictions: must have a spatula, must have 3 figures and must have an America reference.  (This illustration was almost going to be Paula Dean flying on a stick of butter with a spatula in her hand!)

Have you ever read Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut.  At the end of the book, Dwayne Hoover spits Kilgore Trouts finger into the river.  If you haven't read the book, then you definitely should.  (Random fact: Kurt Vonnegut and I have the same birthday (and Leo DiCaprio too)

This is my latest side project...  it feels like I've been working on it forever.  I started on this a few weeks before Christmas.  Due not owning Illustrator and my sheer laziness after an 8 hour day in the "real world" (oh and my New Years Resolution to learn all the countries of the world), I've been slacking on this.  It probably doesn't help that I will never get a grade for it.  Needless to say, a lot more detail will be going into this bad boy.  But I like where it's headed.

Clearly, I'm not good at blogging

So since my last post... I got myself a new boyfriend, I moved back home, I started working 40 hrs a week, and I am still enrolled in school.  Life has been fairly busy, which "fairly" is no excuse for not posting and falling off the face of the earth, because I do a "fairly" good amount of time wasting after work (I forgot how life sucking a full-time job was).

My one and only class this semester is Professional Practices.  I'm not really working on anything creative.  It's mostly self branding type stuff, then slapping it on the ole resume and cover letter.  It's super thrilling.  I'm positive that you're not interested in those types of things.  Therefore, I'm not posting them.  I have, however, managed to create one cute illustration over the past few months.  As you can see, I redesigned the cover of Goodnight Moon.  I hope you like.  :)

Time Flies By, Never To Return...

Alas!  It's summer break.  First task is to clean my room!  It hasn't been cleaned since my last post!  YIKES, for sure.  So after that daunting task, I'm going to redo my final project for Payne.  Then I plan to get the ball rolling and post more of my work.  So prepare yourself!  Happy summer!!  :D

"And this is where the magic happens..." -MTV's Cribs

Sooo... I woke up an hour & a half before my alarm went off.  That's usually a good thing, but I haven't accomplished anything other than making some oatmeal & coffee and taking pictures of my desk/room.  The quality sucks, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

I love my desk!!!  It's from Ikea, and it's amazing!
It has a book shelf and a massive desk top.  I highly recommend!

Luckily it's been a slow week.
So my room didn't get too messy over the course of 3 days, like usual.

This is where the other magic happens.... as in SLEEP.  Glorious sleep.
